Treatment Protocols

These protocols have been structured to ensure good therapy practice. They are for the benefit of both the therapist and the client

It is important to remember that if you are using a particular brand of product or equipment, that full training by the supplier/manufacturer is undertaken. Where applicable, evidence of such training may be required in the form of a certificate or diploma.

1. Consultation – a thorough consultation must be carried out prior to any treatment to establish whether the client is contra-indicated and suitable for the proposed treatment

2. Skin Type – the client’s skin type should be established and assessed during the consultation to establish whether suitable for the proposed treatment

3. Possible Adverse Reaction – if applicable, the client must be advised of any possibility of an adverse reaction that could occur during the proposed treatment so that they can make an informed choice as to whether to proceed.

4. Area for Treatment – the treatment area must be agreed and documented

5. Treatment Costs – the cost of the treatments must be fully explained to the client and agreed prior to commencement.

6. Client Signature – the client signs the Consultation Record Form agreeing that all the information is correct on the date given. Client also agrees to immediately advise the Clinic/Salon of any changes to medical circumstances.

7. Consent to Treatment – the client will sign to say that they understand the treatment and possible results and that they wish to proceed with the treatment.

8. Patch-Test – where applicable, a patch-test should be carried out at least 24 hours (in some cases 48 hours may be required) prior to treatment to ensure client suitability to proposed treatment. All information to be documented on Treatment Record Card. Patch tests may have to be repeated if client’s medical circumstances change or if you choose to change the brand of product.

Application / delivery of treatment

9. Treatment room should be clean and free from ALL clutter.

10. Sterilize all equipment to be used.

11. Prepare trolley with all appropriate products to be used to carry out the treatment.

12. Reaffirm that client’s medical details have not changed since last visit

13. If applicable, ask client to remove all jewellery from treatment area.

14. Wash hands thoroughly with anti-bacterial hand cleanser.

15. If using latex gloves, ensure the client does not have an intolerance to latex.

16. Carry out treatment in accordance with the supplier / manufacturer’s protocols

17. Apply post care protection where applicable

18. Document all treatment details onto record card including results and reactions

19. Advise client of post-treatment and home-care procedures

20. Advise the client to call the salon immediately should an adverse reaction occur

It is important to observe the contra-indications that may prevent a treatment being carried out. Refer to the supplier / manufacturer’s guidelines if applicable.
